This Millennial Hustle Ends Here

Right where it started.

Over the past month and half there were at least five times that I sat down thinking I knew how this story would end. Each time, something held me back from being able to put the words on paper. It just wasn’t the end quite yet. But today it is. Today, this millennial hustle is over. Today, I was offered the perfect job. The position I could have only dreamed about when I started this journey a few years ago. A human centered research position with a well known, generally non-problematic corporation in my hometown. All the stars finally aligned and after multiple interviews with multiple team members, I was offered the job. I turned it down.

Maybe I’m a little crazy, but I don’t think I am. I moved to New York on my 21st birthday. I never intended to live in the city for one year, let alone seven. After the first year I was ready to pack it all up and move back home. Thank u, next. It was a difficult year, personally and professionally. But then I got an offer and I decided to give it one more go. I kept making short term commitments, one year to a job, two years to grad school, another two years to a grant, and suddenly I was three years into a job post grad school and seven years into a complicated, unhealthy relationship with New York City. I felt trapped. Something needed to change. So I began to explore a new avenue of my journey…
